How to download and install Joomla

You can download Joomla from the joomla official website.

Click here to download joomla from their website. After you are in their website, scroll down and the left side you will find a download button.Dont download the beta version. You can download the present1.0.12 which is stable. As soon as you click there, you will directed to the joomla code page or sourceforge page, where the download file has been uploaded.

Once you are in the download page, let me warn you that you will be seeing patch files, which you should not download. Patch files are for those who want to upgrade from the previous version to the present version. May be the 5th or 6th you will see written, Joomla_1.0.12-Stable-Full_Package.tar.bz2

Download the file and upload the files to your root directory.

Joomla Menu Tutorials-Making a Joomla Menu

Before i make a joomla menu, i always remember to make a category for that. I always use section as news and category, i change according to my need.

In your admin panel, navigate to content–category manager. Click on new and make a new category, and section you can always give as NEWS….category you can change accordingly..After you save, go to Menu—main menu.

Here you will see option NEW, in the right top.After you click that choose Blog content category, for the type of menu. You can play around, and see how others work too.

After this, write your menu name, section=news, category=what u made.Save it at the end.
Thats it, you are done.

Now to add content to that menu, you need to navigate to content–all content items–NEW

After you are here..give the title of your article. Section as news and category(what you made), and save it.

If in case you want a menu linking to another website or another page, when you are asked to choose menu type, click on Link URL, instead of blog content category.
